Hello Everyone,

My name is Angela Rodriguez and I major in Communications with a minor in Digital Journalism. I work with kindergarteners in a before and after school program and on my free time I like being physically active or outdoors by hiking, biking or just going to the gym. I don’t have a lot of experience with art, aside from playing multiple musical instruments and playing with photography for my major. I also have found myself doing a lot of art at work. Some of the children’s favorite activities are art projects, which forces me to learn about different art styles. Some of my favorite art activities I have done with the children were sand paintings, making food bank related sculptures and incorporating nature into an art piece after an afternoon walk. I don’t really attend any art events, or own any art pieces (that aren’t made by six year old’s), but my favorite kind of art to look at is anything floral with bright colors. I really like the simplistic and delicate look of a flower. The image included in this blog post is a great example of the kind of art that appeals me.

With some research, I found an article about how a women finds inspiration for her art pieces and how she loves the process of going through her garden to get this inspiration to start a new work https://infoweb-newsbank-com.proxy.library.uaf.edu/apps/news/document-view?p=WORLDNEWS&docref=news/1734055D6AF8E290. I really liked this article because it reminded me of the steps we have to take as students to get inspiration for each of our classes papers, projects or actual pieces of art. This process can work in the academic, professional, and entertainment parts of each individuals life.

  2. Hi angela
I like how the flowers look to me they look like they need water, it also says to me that someone has not been home for a while. The pastel does a wonderful job I like it.

  3. Hi Angela, pleased to meet you! Photography is so much fun and even though it may not seem like artwork, it truly is. I love that you work with kids and you talked so deeply about it, they seem to add light to your life. Communication is something I could use improvement on, it will be cool to have someone in the class who can give me advice if I ever need it on those aspects of the class. I have a love for flowers as well, there is just something very calming about them. I look forward to learning with you!

  4. Hi Angela, it is wonderful to meet you. I am happy with the art piece you posted. Seeing flowers always puts a smile on my face. Working in early education is something I have always admired. It looks like such an exhausting job and takes a special kind of person to do it. It is a very respectable profession.

  5. Hi Angela – I found myself helping out teaching ceramics in the after school program at the elementary school my dad teaches at when I was in high school. I’m glad you were able to find projects that clicked with the kids, I always had a hard time motivating them past throwing balls of clay at each other. Hope you have a great semester!

  6. Hi Angela! Thank you for sharing this painting, it is beautiful! In high school, I worked at our elementary school in the pre-school and kindergarten classrooms, and I cannot wait to return home to have a classroom of my own one day.

  7. I love that drawing/art is still a focal point in classrooms for young children, It’s extremely helpful for young minds to be able to create and express themselves through art.

  8. Hello!
I love how you chose the painting of the flower. Flowers are one of my favorite things to photograph. You must have a lot of patients to work with young kids! One of my favorite art-related things when I was young, was drawing in shaving cream that my mother spread all out on the table for me. Quite messy though! That’s great that you found a major you love.

  9. I really like how you experience art through these kindergarteners! Young kids, in my experience, tend to have the best ways to experience art, especially because it’s like a no pressure zone. Also, you get to have a lot of fun!
